Maria Magdalena

Mary Magdalene by Garlo Crivelli (1480)

Mary Magdalene was a follower of Jesus after He cast out seven demons from her.[1] She was part of a group of women that helped support Jesus and the disciples out of their own means.[2] She was present at the crucifixion[3] and was among the group that discovered the empty tomb of Jesus.[4] As the group walked back from the empty tomb they were the first to meet the post-resurrected Jesus.[5]

There has been great speculation about Mary Magdalene over the centuries. Some say she was a prostitute before she met Jesus, others say she was a leader among the followers of Jesus, while still others have said she was a the secret lover or wife of Jesus. None of this is biblical.
